I just earned my next award and it brought up the upgrade screen, I cycled through the diffrent upgrades and couldn't find it, I don't have it yet, and I did get the M95 sniper rifle as my first upgrade, what's wrong, do I need to upgrade one weapon in each catagory before going for the second one?

Not true. For any given kit, you need to unlock a particular gun of the first tier before unlock the gun of the second tier. You do not need to unlock every gun in the first tier before unlocking any of the second tier.

Its easily the best sniper rifle. Much more accurate than the M95 and just as strong, though it does NOT shoot through Helicopter cockpit glass like the M95 does.
Also yes you need SF to get the 2nd tier unlocks

Actually, YOU don't need it. If a friend has it, you save $30. Just go over to his house, log in there and play a round on a SF map. After the round ends and you disconnect from the server, BAM! You have received # unlocks, depending on how many unlocks you previously had.
the M95 is NOT more powerful. It is shown as having 190 damage in some stats, but that has to do with its window penetrating ability. Against human targets, it does 95 damage just like the L96A1 and M24. Really, the L96 is the best because it takes the best of the M24 and M95 and combines them with a better scope (thin crosshairs to better line up headshots). The only reason to go back to the M95 is to shoot pilots, which is very hard anyway.
Cool. Never thought of that. I own SF and have some of the SF unlocks (plus its cool you get free/extra unlocks with SF). I'm sure my bro wouldn't mind playing a round on mine so he can get additional SF unlocks and use them in regular BF2. Thanks!
flyboy you probably just read the basic stats when u came to that conclusion, and thats fine most people do but it explains here why the m95 is more powerful

that site doesn't even mention the L96A1... Either way with the L96A1 I can shoot through Hummer glass just fine. I cannot shoot through Heli glass but again I basically only spawn as a Sniper and choose M95 if I there is a possiblility where I could snipe a chopper pilot.

When I bought SF I created a new account since I'd prefer to have two accounts with different sets of unlocks (I'll never play enough to rank up one account to have many unlocks). But I can still play my old BF2 account in SF. They both work in SF or regular maps.

The big disadvantage to the M95 is that it is LOUD AS ALL HELL. No chance of stealth unless you are a good 120+ meters away.
I've only pulled of shooting someone out of a helo cockpit twice. You can get them if they are hovering at flags, but it's a hell of a hard shot to line up if they aren't. Plus the m95 doesn't do 100% damage, so if the pilot isn't already down a little bit of health they are going to run off before you can get your second shot and kill them. Even more likely is that you will piss the pilot off and they will hunt you down. No chance of getting that second shot when you have helo fire coming at you. Don't go with the m95 for the benefit of shooting through cockpit glass. It's a waste of time trying.
The L96AI still requires two hits for a kill, but I do believe the reload time is faster, making it less likely that you will lose your target or that they will spot you before you can shoot again.

The only advantage of the l96a1 over the m24 is a better crosshair. Being so used to the m24, it wasn't an advantage at all for me, I'm more accurate with the m24.

ERRRRR WRONG.
I have done this for my brother as well as half a dozen friends at school. If someone plays a full round of SF on your acct you get the unlocks. Every time you rank up after that you get SF unlocks as well. For those that don't know here's how unlocks work:
1) If you own BF2 regular you get 1 unlock per rank
2) If you own BF2 regular and SF you get 2 unlocks per level. You HAVE to unlock the BF2 regular gun before you get the SF unlock, however you could unlock 2 BF2 regular guns instead. Example: You own SF, you get your second rank (the first rank gives no unlocks) you could either unlock the M95 and the SF sniper rifle OR the M95 and the G3 (or whatever other vanilla gun). The next time you rank you can unlock either 2 more vanilla guns, 1 vanilla and 1 SF or the 2 SF guns (sniper and assault). The SF unlocks can be used to unlock ANYTHING but you HAVE to unlock the vanilla version before the Sf version.
If you trust me feel free to PM me and I can tag you for SF. The next time you log in you can choose your unlocks.
EDIT: I have alot of sniper experience in bf2 (though support is my fav kit) and the L96 is the best sniper gun hands down. It has the thinnest crosshairs and the least noice/variance of all the sniper rifles. The m95 is almost unanimously considered the worst sniper rifle in the game though it is MUCH better after the 1.2 patch. All the bolt action sniper rifles have the same damage, the reason the M95 is listed as doing more damage is because it hits armored vehicles harder than the rest, I have seen people get the last hit on a chopper (post 1.2) and blow it up with the M95, also it shoots through glass (I have never done this and it's usually not worth the effort).
Sorta its still a 1 shot kill if its a head shot. Not really anywhere else to hit with a helo pilot.
