Battlefield 2...the real skinny on singleplayer...

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about buying BF 2, but since I only have 56k, I only play singleplayer. Yes, I know, shock and awe here, but I actually really enjoyed BF 1942's singleplayer just to goof around with, and thought Bf 2 would be alot of fun too.
But I've heard so many negative things aobut Bf2's singleplayer, even compared to 1942s, that i have a few questions:

1) is it true that there are no vehicles in sineplayer?

2) I've heard there's a limit of something like 16 players or something, but I've also heard there's a hack to override that limit? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm just looking for a good, open, unscripted battle experience like 1942, and figured Bf 2 would be the obvious answer, but now I'm not so sure.

Can anyone offer up some opinions on the singleplayer part of the game? Thanks!

1) There are definitely vehicles in single player.

2) Yes, single player maps are limited to 16 players. You can change files to allow any number of bots, but you are still stuck on the 16 player sized map. There is somebody who got the 32 and 64 sized maps to work in singleplayer, but it broke the bots because there was no pathing. A few people are supposedly working on a mod to expand the singleplayer, but the editor hasn't been released so it will take awhile.

If you are unable to play multiplayer, I would just get a different game, as Battlefield 2 is really all about multiplayer.

Thank you, that was basically all I needed. :)

I guess I'll just wait for the price to drop, or until online multiplayer becomes more of a reality for me, before picking it up.

Thanks again!

I don't know that I'd tell you not to buy it. I haven't really been able to play it online without it freezing up, so I've spent most of my time in single player. While it's true that you're locked into the map sizes and bot counts (to some extent), there are most certainly vehicles. Heck, the vehicles are so much fun (I love the helicopters) that sometimes I just fire up my own local 32 player server and fly around the maps.

Anyone looking for a good chopper pilot? Just don't ask me to fly a plane...
