It's not really a software industry term, it's a GAMING industry term.

And since it's an EA game, the definitions are a bit different:
Alpha = first running version
Beta = better version, more bugs fixed, plenty of new bugs introduced, still runs like shat
Gold = final version, probably some major bugs, definitely a lot of minor bugs still being ignored, most recent build on the day when EA management calls up the dev group and says: "We don't give a fvck if the game is ready, we need to start bringing cash in now. We'll fix the problems later if enough people bitch and moan.

It's not specific to games, it's used throughout the software industry. :roll:

It's a far more common term in the gaming industry. Yes, I've seen it used for non-game software, but not often.

Man, I can't wait for the helo's. I LOVED flying around in DC, nothing like wasting dudes and tanks from an apache. Funny thing is not many people got the hang of flying them so I usually got to be the pilot :)

WELL THX FOR THE INFO AND RIPPING ON ME. I ASSUMED GOLD REPRESENTED PRESALES NOT THE FACT THAT ITS READY....IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER BECAUSE I WILL BE CALLING IN SICK THE DAY AFTER I GET IT ...:)
