Gold has nothing to do with number of units sold in the game industry. Since ZERO units have been sold ATM (presells don't count)

Going gold means that it has reached a stable final version which is being sent to the CD pressing plants for mass production and shipping to the masses.

Confirmed. Just an industry term, ignore it.

It's a software industry term.

Alpha = first running version
Beta = better version, more bugs fixed, still runs like shat
Gold = final version, all major bugs fixed, possibly a few minor bugs still being worked on, first stable release

It's not really a software industry term, it's a GAMING industry term.

And since it's an EA game, the definitions are a bit different:
Alpha = first running version
Beta = better version, more bugs fixed, plenty of new bugs introduced, still runs like shat
Gold = final version, probably some major bugs, definitely a lot of minor bugs still being ignored, most recent build on the day when EA management calls up the dev group and says: "We don't give a fvck if the game is ready, we need to start bringing cash in now. We'll fix the problems later if enough people bitch and moan.

Except in this case, it's EA shipping the game, so the release may not be stable or balanced, but EA needs some cash so they're pushing it out the door.

let's see, it will take about 2 days for peeps to find the most unbalanced overpowering class and use nothing but that. figure half a week for some game-breaking exploits to be found. then it's wait 3 months for a patch.

I'm still looking forward to flying the helos though ;) that's about the only part of BFV that I enjoyed.

Yeah with EA you never know. Sucks for console players, no patches available to them.

It's not specific to games, it's used throughout the software industry. :roll:

Gold = Spent too much time and money already, need to sell units at all costs, works good enough to install, we'll finish it in patches over the next year, first semi stable release

All too often this is what happens in today's industry. I don't expect much more than this, but I'd love to be surprised.
