Battlefield 2 -> Frames dropping randomly

Hey Everyone:) ,

I bought BF2 today and i am having some issues with its performance (just like everyone else). Basically the game runs almost perfectly in 1024x768 all settings at High (except lighting and shadows - both are on medium). AA is turned off.

The only problem is every 15 seconds or so the frames per sec drop from about 40-70 all the way down to 4-20 or so (which is REALLY ANNOYING as this makes it unplayable).

Is this a memory problem or a graphics card problem (Or something else) - Please see my rig specs below!;)

Also would it be better to run BF2 with my 1GB of DDR Dual Channel RAM or would it be better on 1.5GB of DDR Single channel RAM?

Thanks for your help all,

Slick:cool:

You need more ram. With a 7800GTX sli, you will be forced to run medium settings if you have 1GB of ram. This game REQUIRES the system to have around 1.5GB of ram to run smoothly at maximum settings.

You need 2GB of ram if you're going to use High settings.

There really is no difference in quality though. See here.

If I were you I would

* Everything medium (maybe lighting and shadows low)
* Bump the resolution (or AA) up

You do not need 2GB. 1.5GB runs absolutely the same as 2GB. Most people here have 1GB of ram and just buy the 1GB stick because it is cheap.

No, set textures to medium and you should be fine. Textures at high requires more than 1GB of RAM to run smoothly.

Thanks for your replies all!

BUT which one would be better...running BF2 with 1GB DDR Dual Channel RAM

OR

1.5GB DDR Single Channel RAM... Is access times more important for RAM or is the total capacity more important?

Thanks

Slick :)

To be honest, I don't think anybody has ever tried that.

IMO, it would simply be easier to drop the texture details and live with 1GB.
