Recently purchased the game and have tried to get online without much success. We downloaded the newest version (think it was 1.61) but it says we don't have the right version and asks if we want to get it. It takes us no where. Probably something simply but it has me baffled right now. Do you have to register with game spy in order to play on the internet?

Still learning about this game stuff and the internet. All we are familiar with is Halo and CS and its easy enough to connect and play multiplayer with them.

Any suggests to other sites to play multiplayer would really be appreciated.

thanks

BF1942 has a built in multiplayer search tool. I have never used gamespy to play. Also download Desert combat mod with this game it rocks. Think the most up to date patch is 1.6.19 or 1.61b. Not sure which one is newer. You can get all the files you need at bf1942files.com(faster), gamespy or fileshack(faster imo).Hope this helps

Make sure you are not trying to join a Mod server. Set the filters to only show the gametypes you have. There are plenty of great Mods for BF1942(should consider downloading some). The latest version is 1.61b,probably what you have, but doublecheck.

Even though I quit playing it a year ago or so, it is probably the best Multiplayer game I've played. As long as you have a good connection to the internet, you'll have tons of fun playing it(assuming it's your thing).

on a side note: does anyone play the official WW2 mod for BF: Vietnam? I downloaded it and wanted to play it but not a single server that ran it had people actually playing... Also, when I tried to join an empty server just to fool around and see how the mod looks I got a "Corrupt Data" error :(

@lozina:
I'd also like to play BF:V's WW2 mod, but have run into the same problem of no active servers. The "Corrupt Data" thing isn't something I've seen; I would guess the download didn't go well. Have you tried downloading and installing the mod again?

Edit: another thing I noticed when I was patching to the latest version of BF:V was that the readme said you have to apply the patch AFTER installing the WW2 maps. If you install the maps after the patch, just re-apply the patch and it should fix it.

Did you install the WWII mod AFTER whatever the latest 1.2xx patch is? If so, you need to reinstall the 1.2x patch. It's in the readme.

I second that!:)

I third that.
BF 1942 got boring prety quick for me, but I stll play the DC mod several days a week.
IMO, DC is the best multiplayer FPS ever.
BF2 wil be out this spring, so get ready for that. Hopefully it won't bomb like BF Vietnam did.

The quicktime movies for BF 2 look like "the bomb!" if they are any indication of what the game will bring to the table. But I wonder why BF Vietnam was such a "bomb" as you say? It's probably amongst my favorite games right now and I've owned it since it was released. I like it even more than BF 1942. Did it just not do well in stores? Pitty really because it is an awesome game.

Vietnam is a good game, it just took them a while to get the choppers right. I suppose that by the time they made it so it wasn't a chopper-or-nothing game, people had already deserted it, sick of cobras and huey spawn raping. The latter still occurs, but its not as bad anymore.

For me, it just wasn't near as fun as DC. Maybe if I had played 1942 only, I would have liked it better. I know I didn't play it very long. I just went back to playing DC.

agreed, BF:vietnam has the best soundtrack for a game, ever.
