What is happening, I am 99% sure, is that the router is blocking the incoming ports that need to be open so people can join your server. What you need to do, is find out what ports these are (BF should tell you) and then go to the router config, and have those ports open. Or, an alternate, more unsafe method, would be to put the IP of the host computer in the DMZ zone, which allows ALL incoming traffic, and is thus unprotected, but free to host.

just to check that the pc and installation is fine, have u tried plugging the cable modem straight into this offending computer and having someone try to join?

i have a linksys router, and on only one of the pcs, it for some reason won't let me join games of age of empires. i can host, but not join, even after a format

I doubt that you have an Uplink.

Auto sensing is replacing the need for Uplink.

as far plugging in the cable directly to the computer, I have not tried this. To do this I would have to reset router and cable modem when I was done and I dont need any more headaches lol. ( I am sure that it would work) I have 2 other computer on the network all internet access thru the router, I can play lan games with all 3 computers and anyone can host. Since I can do all this I am thinking it is a setting in the router. But Linksys is no help at all. Every time I call I get a woman with a very heavy phillipino accent. ( I think their help is based in the philipines ) Am I barking up the the wrong tree ? Imust be doping something wrong with the port forwarding but then dmz would not work either and its kinda hard to screw that up lol, its only one setting. ??????????????????? Thanks for your help anyone I will try all the ideas even the direct cable hook up Tyler (pulling his hair out ) 811

well if it is workin in the dmz, then it was likely a port problem. if u go on battlefield1942.com and look in the FAQ or technical support bit, u will probably find the ports. Better yet, and prolly alot easier, is to post 'what ports need to be open to host battlefield 1942 games' in the software forum.

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer and check the logs to see if anyone has tried to hack you. It is a good idea to turn on auditing on successful/failure logon attempts in Local Security Policy in the same folder.

Thanks for the help acid and all else but I have tried everything and nothing works. I might be setting the ports wrong but it looks so simple. I have again tried to set the port( there is only one 14567 ) that did not work. I have tried mcafee firewall but that does not work unless i allow the whole computer (which is not what i want to do ) I tried only allowing the server but i could not connect with another. I am at a loss as to what to do. the only way to do it is to go dmz and dont really want to do that either. guess i cant do it all ??? and thanks citadel i will do that to see if i have been hacked

Tyler I feel your pain.I'm using the same router & have run into the same problem with BF 1942,updated to the latest firmware, put server in DMZ.The best I can get(while in DMZ) is players will join my server for about 5 minutes or less & then get disconected/kicked.

It does the same thing when I try serving MOHAA,Tribes1,Tribes2.I can hook directly to the cable modem & everything works fine. Putting the Server in the DMZ is so simple to do but it just does'nt work right.

Anyone have success serving with there Linksys router & have an idea? The router works great for everything else but I'm about ready to buy a different one.

BF 1942 is flakey to begin with, I can't even play the single player because it locks up as soon as I start loading a map, much less multiplayer. The web site says it supports my video card with the latest drivers, but I still think that's what the problem is, because everything else I run works fine. EA support sucks big time, 23 e-mails for support over a 3 month period and still no reply, doubt I'll ever buy an EA game again.
