I just re-installed Battlefield 1942 and im using a refresh rate fix for my Ti4600 on WinXp.

Battlefield 1942 doesnt start, it just kicks me back to the desktop.

Had it running b4 by editing a file in the game.

Got the info from EA forume and i'll be darned if i remember how to do it.

So I thought id ask how here 1st, b4 i go searching through all those posts over there. lol

Anyone know how to edit Battlefield 1942 to run with a refresh rate fix installed in WinXp?

Did you install the patch? :)

There's a readme that comes w/ the patch telling you which file you need to edit (I think it's VideoDefaults.con). I forget what the entry in the file is...

Just install the patch and you'll be fine.

Ah, you were right.

It was in the patch's readme.txt

Heres what I had to do.
-Open the videodefault.con file found in Settings\VideoDefault.con
-Edit the line: renderer.allowAllRefreshRates # (where # can be replaced
by 0 or 1)
-Changing this value to one will allow you to select the refresh rates from the
Options>Video section of the in-game frontend. NOTE: the game will default to 640x480.

Thanks for the help.

yeah I put mine up to 75Hz. Anyway people commonly fail to remember that your FPS is only as good as your refresh rate.
In RTCW I get well over 90+fps but it means diddly squat to my eyes cuz I only see 60fps cuz my refresh rate in RTCW only goes to 60Hz.

Guess i should explain 4 others who may view this thread what my problem/fix was...

I Have all my refresh rates at 85hz using refresh force.

Seems the game didnt care for that much until I edited the videodefault.con file
and changed the line renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 ..........I changed the zero to a 1..now it runs fine.
