Battlefield 1942 multiplayer problem

Alright guys I've been trying to figure this one out, but I just don't get it. Whenever I load battlefield 1942, the singleplayer works fine. But when I try to load a multiplayer game, it'll start loading and it'll load about half way then it'll pop back to the desktop. What the hell? Theres no error or anything. System is as follows

2.3ghz athlon
radeon 9500 softmodded to 9700
512mb pc3000
8rda+ usiing onboard sound
80gb wd se drive

ah, it was the stupid no cd crack I tried to use. Works now when I don't apply it and just use the cd.

yeah, got the game today and installed patch. I'm gonna get latest Nvidia drivers to test if thats the problem. I have 40.72 now.

Had a similar problem wiht my no CD crack, it would let me start a game and play it, later when I would go to a different server it wouldn't let me in, updated the server list, would work. Just seemed to work every other time 🙁 After my format I decided to not use the no CD crack....

Never understood the reasoning of buying the game, then using a noCD patch... Why bother?

So they don't damage the original game, or bother having to keep switching cd's back and forth...

BINGO! on the last statment. I don't like switching CD's out for every game I play. I usually have 4 or 5 games loaded on the computer and it's no fun to have to switch them out every time.

1. I have probably 30 games loaded on my PC and I don't want to dig for a CD to play.
2. I don't want to scratch my disks - we're not talking simply a $15 music CD here.
3. Games that don't check the CD typically load in half the time - even more pronounced on a fast system.

The thing *I* don't understand is why people would *NOT* buy the game and then use a ndCD patch - seems like a no-integrity-having-d1cklipped kinda thing to do.
