Man my last two upgrades increased my speeds in battlefield 1942 a lot! I can get awesome framerates in 1024x768x32 with full high quality sound on medium detail with NO slowdowns!

I upgraded my CPU from an Athlon 1.2 ghz to a Pentium4 2.53 ghz and upgraded my memory for 256 pc133 to 512 DDR400...what a difference it makes!

My video card is still the same (geforce3) but I think I've breathed new life into it. Seems like this game is more ram and CPU dependent than video.

I would think the upgrades you made to your computer alone would make the gameplay much better!!

It's the ram that did it (although the faster proc definetly didn't hurt any :)). There are tons of threads in the bf42.com forums talking about how much of a difference going from 256 to 512MB makes in this game.

I didn't think the difference would be that big until I upgraded the video card...its funny how everyone posts about how bfield1942 is forcing them to upgrade their video cards. Seems like if they upgrade the ram they'll get the performance they want.

I have to agree that ram makes all the differnce in this game.

But I upgraided my geforce 3 to a 9700 and "wow", a big difference.

You can grab a extra stick of 256 of ram (133 and 2100) for $40.
so if your short of funds, it is a great upgraid for this game.

peace.

Where? Last I checked it was at least $55 after a lot of rebates (non-rebate prices is normally in the high 60's now?)
