I got the same stick, and it's awesome stick, but shipping kills the deal. But.. of course, if you really NEED a joystick, it's a warmish one.

I got the same joystick. It is a good choice. Later I got an MS force feedback 2 and still prefer the logitech one in bf1942. Now can't waiting for the price of the new freedom 2.4g logitech wireless going down...

I got this stick, JUST for bf42, and JUST for when I fly planes, which is not often. It's mouse and keyboard the rest of the time. I looked around, and this was the most comfortable stick IMHO for us lefties. Plus, it's got two thumb buttons which I can assign to "bail out" and "open parachute" :)

Justdeals.com has some good prices BUT if you ever have any problems with them, watch out! They have the worst customer service. One time, I won an auction from Ebay on a Force Feedback Steering Wheel from Logitech and they sent me a non-force model! When I complained, they offered to take it back and send me the correct one. The next one was a non-force model as well - only this one was dirty and in poor shape! Next they offered to return my money (less the shipping and handling, of course, since the controllers weren't defective - just incorrectly shipped....).

After 3 months of talking with them to try to convince them to send me what I won at auction, they finally sent me the right unit.....

Buyer Beware with Justdeals.com.....

Price is actually $9.95 - $5 FW referral discount. Shipping is $9 + $3/item so cost for one will be $16.95 (9.95-5.00+12) which is reasonable if product is in good condition. I have had this joystick on my 'wanna buy' list for my son (& myself) since before Christmas and the best price I have found was $30+tax at local wally world.

I purchased three (3) and total cost was $43 or about $14.35 each. I've ordered from Justdeals before - they do have a spotty reseller rating especially on returns/tech support. I'll give 'em another chance. (not too much to gamble for me ;))

I bought one yesterday at around noon, and it shipped that day, the tracking number says it will be here tuesday, so i'll let you guys know..I basically fly with the mouse and keyboard, but I thought it would just be a lot more fun to use a joystick, because I really enjoy the planes(especially in Desert Combat) and I have a hard time shooting down other planes when you can't choose how fast/slow you want to go with the keyboard..so i'm really excited about this..I looked around for reviews and it basically got good reviews everywhere..I didn't see one negative one.

Note that, although the Logitech site states that the joystick connects via USB or gameport, that the justdeals site states that a gameport is required. I wonder if that means that justdeals is shipping the joystick without the gameport-to-USB converter?

Probalby, most all refurbs come with out any of the adaptors that would be included with retail. This is a great flight stick, I bought one back when I got X-wing Alliance and I think it's still a great stick now.

This mod could be the next Counterstrike.
I use mouse and keyboard(arrow keys, I have a big desk).
I find that my speedpad has 3-4 too few buttons when you include the 8 way d-pad and the throttle(8 way dpad is in use actually 4way, too inprecise otherwise, the throttle for me is just b0rked). I can play with it, but I always find myself reaching for my keyboard for whichever thing I left off.

I'm actually really good at flying with mouse and KB, I tried at my friend's house with a joystick and while I saw the use for it, there wasn't any improvement. The 1 and only problem is in Desert Combat. While the chopper can be flown pretty well without one, you need a joystick with 3-axis control AND a throttle to do it perfectly, esp for elevation control and landing. Otherwise you are left tapping up a certain number of times to control your speed, which in a normal plane isn't terrible, but when in a jet or particularly an apache, it slows you down too much or too little.

I have a one of these Logitech twist digital joysticks. Picked it up for $1.00 at
target a week or two before christmas when they were scanning at that price.
Great deal but I use it now for BF1942 exclusively. The twist function is great for
steering the planes as you take off. I was using a CH analog stick with pedals
beforehand but the digital wingman is now my joystick of choice for BF1942
The old analog stick woudn't handle the throttle function correctly...but no problem with
the logitech.

I had some minor problems configuring the stick until I completely removed my old CH stick
from the joystick setup in control panels. This eliminated some problems I was having
configuring controls within BF1942:cool:

Thanks, I am really looking foward to this. I could handle the original BF planes great with mouse and keyboard, and am OK with the chopper in Desert Combat, but the planes are out of the question. Thanks again!

Hmmm, you girls shouldn't be flying in combat. ;)

So you're tempted to buy a joystick for flying- well, you don't need to. The secret to flying well, at least for me:

1) The keyboard and mouse sensitivity is adjustable by sections- infantry, air, etc. Go into options, controls then air and crank up the mouse all the way. Then tweak the KB sensitivity to your liking, mine is almost at max.

2) I own an intellimouse explorer, with two programmable buttons on the side. I link them to the left and right mouse axis. Aside from control it lets you fly as a "stuntplane." Just don't think you're a brilliant acrobat or you'll wind up eating tree.

A little practice and voila, you're an ace pilot.

I'm Precious Roy on BF1942.

that's cool, thanks for the info, i'll have to give that a try this weekend...but it's still cool to get a joystick..i'm sure it will give the best overall flexibility and enjoyment. plus, it's cheap and you get a joystick! :p

While I agree you can turn the sensitivity way up, having a throttle is almost worth it by itself. Especially in DC where the planes are so fast, you need to slow down sometimes in a dogfight. And a joystick with a throttle will make the helicopter soooo much easier to fly. Man, I LOVE that mod....havent been so impressed by a mod (version .2 no less) since CS.

razor boomslang mouse is the 1 and only to use.
however i am gunna try my wingman extreme ... friend borrowed it a year ago...i just had him drop it off today...because i am tired of tryin to fly with a mouse...although i have got real good at it. i have a feeling a joystick will make me just a lil better.
