Battlefield 1942.. crashing to desktop

I know this is a common problem and I haven't been able to run the game since I got it. I knew that the game had problems with running on refresh rates other than 60Hz.. but I've tried all the "possible solutions" suggested on EA's site and I still can't get the game to work.

It always just crashes to the desktop after the main splash screen. I've updated to version 1.2, I've modified the VideoDefault.con file to allow refreshrate fixes, and I've changed my resolution and refresh rates around but still can't get into the game. Any ideas?

Have you changed the sound from 44 ro 22? I heard that some people were having trouble because of that...

I'll try to help because I like this game and I've never had a problem with it running on my PC. Please supply more details of you PC/CARDS/OS/etc.

Go into the following directory:

\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings

Open VideoDefault with wordpad and/or notepad and change:

renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

to

renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1
