Is this made by the same team as Borderlands? Looks interesting but isnt this kind of a MOBA type game? Is it FTP?

Yeah, details about the game (including multimedia captures) are under NDA. However, that doesn't mean that I can't say that I'd rather play Overwatch. Unfortunately, I can't say why I'd rather play Overwatch without getting into game details.

Is this made by the same team as Borderlands?

It's made by Gearbox, yes.

Sort of. The Ars article, which I read before playing, talks about how the game plays a bit: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/10/battleborn-not-a-moba-not-a-moba-not-a-moba/1/

Is it FTP?

No. The Ars article talks about that a bit.

Bump for open "beta."

This game is really really good. It's like Super Monday Night Combat with more fluid FPS combat and control, and a great mix of MOBA-like abilities. Super fun game. I did not like Overwatch, although I feel it is probably the more technical and competitive game. Really, they are not that similar other than being hero based FPSs though. Give this game a try, it's fantastic.

I'm watching the trailer, but I can't really tell what the gameplay actually is?

Well, now I can talk about Battleborn. ;) My biggest problem with Battleborn is that I felt like a waste of space. I was on this map where it was a sort of lush, jungle with these ancient ruins all around. There were these little creeps and portals, but honestly... I had no idea what to do with them. I think that they were part of the win condition, but I don't know anything about it. So, essentially, my biggest complaint is that there's nothing providing any sort of direction.

Also, I hope they've toned down Phoebe, because she was pretty ridiculous in closed beta.

One thing that I do prefer about Overwatch is the lack of levels. Now, some smart aleck might say that Overwatch does have levels, which yes, it technically does. However, they are player levels where Battleborn has a MOBA-like match-based level. The problem is that this comes with all the downsides of levels, and the biggest being... feeding. You want to make that Phoebe even worse, the easiest way is to be unfamiliar with the game and keep giving her kills (i.e. more experience). Technically, Overwatch has feeding too as you can feed people ultimate charge, but that's about it.

Tried it, don't get it, about to uninstall it. If this is a Moba, it needs a much better tutorial for beginners.

Man for a technical forum this is sad, moba has to be one of the easiest genre's in gaming. Games are much dumbed down from what we had in the 90's, if you find battleborn hard. I have to really wonder at the level of intelligence of the average gamer these days. The reality is most moba's are exactly the same, you get gold from kills of monsters or the players on the enemy team. You use that to buy equipment that does more damage, or armor/hp. Everyting is usually highly scripted in the game store, it literally has a page where all you have to do is select what to buy based on what you think you need (damage/hp/armor/etc).

Well, that's a rather underhanded diss when I think you're completely ignoring his complaint. I don't think he's complaining about the concepts behind a MOBA, but rather, the concepts behind Battleborn's objective-based maps. I mentioned this before, but when I was playing Battleborn's closed beta months ago, I was in some jungle-like map with some ruins, and I had no idea what to do with the little creeps running around. I think we had to ferry them into a portal, but I wasn't really sure, because there was nothing to tell me the basics of the map! There should be some sort of Beginner's Tips option that makes the game show you little bits of information about the map.

Yep, preloaded here too. I'd never even heard of this game until catching an Angry Joe stream on Twitch this weekend (the stream was previously recorded at PAX East)... and I think I'm already hooked without ever playing it! And I never play MOBA's, but this has definitely looks promising and no micro transactions!

....I'm just waiting for a proper Borderlands 3.

Battleborn is primarily multiplayer, right...with only a thin, if nonexistent, SP campaign?

also, I can't stand MOBA. Is this supposed to be a FPS-style MOBA of some sort?

I'm also waiting for Borderlands 3 (Borderlands 2 is among my favorite FPSes of all time). I haven't played Battleborn, but from the streams I've watched I can't help but think that Borderlands 3 will take a lot from it (rather than the other way around, although that could be possible too; wouldn't be surprised if one or more characters from Battleborn end up in Borderlands 3 either as part of the campaign or just added as a playable character for the heck of it in some DLC, or even in the vanilla game).

I'm not sure if Battleborn actually compares in play styles / objectives to Overwatch... but to me it seems so obvious that Battleborn is being released before Overwatch... and also obvious that the Open Beta for Overwatch just happens to start as Battleborn is being released. It's definitely competition at least as far as business goes. Still, as far as the games themselves go... are they even comparable? I haven't played either of them, and watching streams of both don't exactly give me the answer.

What I can see though, is that both games seem to heavily rely on team play, maybe too much so (perhaps Overwatch relies on that more than Battleborn; I.E. if just ONE guy in your team doesn't play his/her role well, your ENTIRE team suffers from it, which is NOT a "team play" system I'm very fond of, but I can understand why it 'should' work that way nonetheless). And there seems to be some sort of campaign, albeit probably not as fleshed-out as Overwatch's (especially not when it comes to characters-specific back stories, like Blizzard have done recently with Winston and Widowmaker and their respective short CGI movies).

I haven't played Overwatch but I'll almost certainly pick it up, it looks awesome. I've never been an either/or gamer though, if games look awesome I get them.
