I need a surge protector for my new HT which will include the follow:

PDP
Receiver
HD Cable box
DVD Player
possibly a computer

I have narrowed it down to two surge protectors:

In corner one we have the Belkin PureAV FP40

Pros:
Looks nice
Very high 6490 Joule rating
Says it's able to take spikes up to 330,000 Amps
Really long cord
RJ45 protection
I must confirm this but I've heard that they'll honor the warranty/protection plan no matter where it is purchased

Cons:
Cost more
Less $ amount coverage (not that it matters much)
Belkin is known for lots of things including Wireless routers, KVMs, and USB hubs. Surge Suppression is not one of them
Relatively new and untested
No mention of under-volt protection
No mention of lighting protection

In corner two we have the Panamax MAX 4310

Pros:
Surge prevention and power management is all Panamax does, it's what it's known for.
Tried and Tested
Claims both Over and Under-volt protection
Claims lightning protection
$5,000,000 Connected Equipment policy (My gawd, who would ever need that much?)
cheaper

Cons:
Not as cool looking
Lower Joule and Spike ratings(a lot lower)
No RJ45 protection
Warranty and Protection policies void if purchased from non-authorized dealer

Even with all that I can't decide. :( So I need your help. To the POLE!

the belkin one is much cooler, but i dont think the price difference warrents the higher coolness factor.

I like Belkin just because they gave me good service when I lost a MOBO/sound card in a surge..

:)

And it looks better.

A lot better.

I know I listed it in the Pros/Cons but looks don't matter. This thing is gonna be in a closet out of sight 99% of the time.

panamax make better surge protectors than belkin, hands down. If you're not going to look at it, who cares what it looks like. Furman also makes some great power conditioners for pro audio, get them at 8thstreet.com.
