Battle of the Home Improvement Stores

Lowes.

1) It's walking distance to me now
2) Home Depot screwed Evadman out of a job a while back cuz they're anal retentive a**holes!

Lowes.

The local HD put in the self-service checkout lanes. I hate those things with a passion. (I mean, for grocery stores, maybe... but in a home depot, where so much of their inventory doesn't have barcodes and doesn't fit on the "bagging area?")

I even wrote 'em a letter telling them how much I despise those things and that I'm taking my shopping to Lowes.

No Lowe's here yet but they are building one on the old Monkey Ward property.

Curious to see it since I have never been to one.

You have some serious issues. May I respectfully suggest you speak with a professional counselor. Perhaps your beloved clergyman?

Don't have a HD here... only Lowes.

However the local "Y.O.U.R Building Center" is nicer..not nearly as big but can order anything you need and has competitive prices. Locally owned and operated so that's a nice touch.

I voted Lowes - but, it really depends on what I need. Lowes doesn't allow you to cut the molding that you want to buy into smaller lengths - they make you buy the whole piece. HD can be "off" and "on" at times - either their help is very helpful ... or, not at all. However, I do have a commercial acount with HD, so most of my purchases tend to be made there. But, a new Lowes is being built closer to my area, so more of my business could go to Lowes in the future.

You do know they are OPTIONAL right?!?

They try to force you into them by only having one other cashier open.

It depends what I need, HD has better wood options, Lowes has more hardware options (esp Grade 8 stuff), both have hit or miss on the tools I may need having only portions of what the website shows.

If you think the self checkout lanes are messy for your situation, you should try going through them with an HD commercial account. When I get all of the items scanned, the system then alerts the person monitoring the self-checkout lanes. The person then verifies my identity and I can finally enter a purchase order number, sign for the purchase and be on my way. Although it seems like a little hassle, the self-checkout lanes are actually pretty efficient for smaller purchases. One wouldn't load up enough materials to build a deck on several carts and go through such a checkout process - that is what the Pro desk is for. 😉

As has been mentioned, depends what you need. Lowes doesn't have nearly the stock of lumber that Home Depot does. Lowes has lower prices on storm doors, I recently discovered. I'll go to which ever one is closest to the job. I'm glad to have both available!
