I'm going to pick i7 7770K, because I have a 3770K and it's the top of all CPU's I've used in years.

I repair and fix computers, so here is my top 3...

3. AMD Athlon X4-760K: This isnt a killer CPU, but for $85 it is very good. Out of the box it is 3.8Ghz and not as fast as an i3, when overclocking with an aftermarket cooler I can overclock it to 4.5Ghz and performance is the same as a low-end i5.

2. AMD FX9590: This is a fast CPU. While performance dosent beat an i7-4770K, it is 4.7Ghz. You cant overclock it that much, nor is it really meant for overclocking, with a good cooler I can reach 4.9Ghz, 5Ghz if pushing it.

1. Intel Core i7-4770K: This is the best CPU out IMO. It is very fast. Starting at 3.5Ghz out of box, it can be overclocked to 4.5Ghz maximum.

It seems unlikely to me that an 18% clockspeed bump is the difference between "not as fast as an i3" and "same as a low-end i5".

My vote is for the 4670k, the math is favorable for its price:performance, never mind power consumption and a modern platform. There are plenty of good choices in this poll though.

The overclocking does help a lot.
