I recently purchased this game, it's hot! I think it's my new favorite RTS for a while. I was in a serious crave for some new RTS and this hit the spot! Check it out.

I've definitely thought about checking this game out but KOTOR2 is out tomorrow (at my BB that is) so I'll be busy for a little while.

malak, what do you like about Battle for Middle Earth so far?

Massive battles. You could easily end a skirmish with 400-1000 dead just on your side.

Powers. Like the ones you get in AoM and Generals, only better. The biggest power you get for the good side is the army of the dead. A massive army of ghosts come and can pretty much destroy an enemy army. The bad guys get a balrog and let me tell you, this is probably the coolest power in any game ever. This sucker is huge and freakin owns.

Music and movies. Same music from the movies, which is actually pretty good stuff for an RTS. It also plays short movies by the minimap, clips from the movies, while you are in the campaign. The sound effects are top notch. I don't have surround sound but I guarantee if you do, you'll love it.

I can see this being very fun at a LAN party. I plan on setting one up soon to test that theory.

Yup. Great game. Best RTS i've played in quite some time. Although, RTS pruist beware....its simplified. For me, that wasnt an issue, but a buddy of mine who plays Dawn of War thought it was too simplified....didnt and anything new really.

But if you're a fan of the LOTR universe, its a deffinite!!

Simplified how? Not a lot of upgrades/research? I'm a big fan of RTS but not really a fan of LOTR... would that make a difference?

1) There isnt a deep upgrade tree structure for really any units
2) You can only build on pre-determined spots.
3) AI is pretty bad also, if someone attacks your units...they just stand there.
4) oh...and there isnt alot of different units.

...there is more, but this is all i can think of off the top of my head. But it looks DAMN good and its alot of fun! :)

I liked it at first, but then I just looked back and thought..."if it wasn't based of of LOTR, this would really suck."

It is a good game but here's why I don't like it:
1.) AI sucks major. Your units never attack other units unless you click and tell them specifically.
2.) Even though you can "change the story" by replaying the battles. Nothing good ever happens. I mean, I saved Boromirs sorry ass when he was supposed to die, and nothing changed.
3.) Huge balancing problems. It's not too bad single player, but it's horrible on multiplayer. Evil is really weak, cuz they only have 3 heroes. Plus Saruman is a horrible wizard. Gandalf alone on the good side could almost conquer middle earth alone in this game.

Other than that, the game looks great, and is generally fun.

These are all valid points IMHO.

i like the single player.
i like how units gain experience/heroes and you retain them throughout the campaign.
i played thru the entire good campaign, finished every optional map and assaulted the black gate with lvl10 everyone.(archers up the arse!) its an easy game to pick apart.but the presentation/score gfx and interface are top notch.
mix it all together and its a great game.(if you love LOTR/Medievil/Fantasy & RTS.

This is why I stopped playing, esp #1. The units wont even defend themselves when they r attacked unless u command them to, too much micomanagement 4 me

when will starcraft 2 come out ?????? :( :(

Yes, I hope they have a patch for the AI. Watching my army get blown away without them bothering to fight back is pretty stupid. Although I disagree with #3, I think it's well balanced. Evil isn't weak at all, I like both sides for different reasons. Saruman is a sweet hero, he can eradicate 3 companies all by himself, take over a 4th, and with them destroy a 5th. Plus he can give free experience to ally companies. 2 evil heroes are worth 4 good ones, since the evil ones are a lot stronger. 2 nazgul + the witch king own any other group of heroes.

i wish you could rotate the battlefield views to angle your horesman more, but man other than that the effects and graphics are great, especially if you are inclined to zoom in a bit. Well Gandalf is overated, with his spells not charged up a sitting duck to say the least. Minas tirath was beyond amazing, I cant believe how cool that battle was, I was killing, charging, hailing arrows down from legolas my boy.
