I have a Dell Latitude E7440. My current battery kind of sucks.. it is 34Wh, 11.1V, 2950mAh and only last around 3 hours (not good enough for school) . Looking online, I have found a few different batteries but most of them are less than 11.1V. I am also pretty sure its a 3 cell battery but idk how to check.

My question is: Does the battery voltage/cell have to remain the same? If it doesn't, would a lower battery voltage affect computer performance in any way? (i like to play games and would rather still be able to play them..)

The battery voltage needs to be the same as the original battery. Small differences are probably fine, but a 5V battery in an 11.1V laptop isn't a good idea. Using the wrong battery may or may not actually damage the laptop, but it almost definitely will not work properly.

It uses a 3 cell battery pack. "Sometimes" a manufacturer will round up to 3.7V/cell and other times down to 3.6V/cell, so you should still be fine with down to 10.8V, but if it is below 10.8V, either it is not a 3 cell Li-Ion pack, or they copy/pasted the specs wrong, or they did something even more wrong and suggested the wrong battery for the product # listed.

In other words if the battery is the right type for the laptop, mechanically fits in it, the remaining issue is the mAh capacity. Only trust the mAh capacity from a major brand, maybe only from Dell. A generic 3rd party battery of the same size is never going to have higher true capacity regardless of what they claim, because Dell had already used fairly good batteries to achieve the 2950mAh rating. There are better capacity cells out there in the market today, but you won't find them in generic battery packs.
