What is a good battery to get? I was thinking of Duralast from Autozone but some people mention that Optima is a better product.
The duralast has 640 cold cranking amps and 100 reserve minutes with a 3 year warranty.
The Optima is 720 cold cranking amps with 90 reserve minutes accompanied by a 3 year warranty as well.
The Optima is a bit more but does it matter which one I should get?

The Optima is a totally sealed maintenance free battery. You'll never have to worry about acid, water level, hydrogen gas, corrosion, etc.

But if they are ever discharged completely they can't be revived. Also the gel cell construction seems to hold up well in extreme environments like desert heat that takes its toll on conventional lead acid batteries.

So they are definitely worth the money and wil last you the life of the car. In fact its common for people to transplant their Optima battery to their new car before they sell the old one.

But I also have a 5 yr old conventional lead acid battery from Walmart (yellow Everstart) that is still runing like new ;) just something cheap I grabbed for a beater that had been sitting too long and its Optima was totally dead and wouldn't charge (completely my fault)

I'll probably get the Duralast then. It's cheaper and likely will work just as well. I don't intend on keeping the G37 for more than a year or so (will be looking into the new 2013 G that reportedly has its look borrowed from the Essence and has 360hp).

I have a Duralast battery in my car. Very good battery for the money. My stock battery died within the first year and I've had my current battery for 4 years now.

Duralast Gold, Made by Johnson controls which also makes alot of popular car batteries.
Johnson Controls Industries (they bought out Delphi). Delphi makes some EverStart models sold in Walmart and ACDelco. Johnson Control Industries makes Duralast seen in Autozone stores, Diehard - sold in Sears, Kirkland - the Costco brand, Motorcraft - which Ford sells, some of the EverStarts, and Interstate.

I have A duralast gold in my G and it has a 7 year prorated warrenty and only was 80 bucks with exchanging my old battery. why pay for a 200 buck battery that could die in the same amount of time a 80buck Duralast gold battery . I have not had a reason to spend extra money on a Optima, I see it as throwing money in the trash.

Like I said above, the nicest thing about Optima is you never have to worry about leaks, corrosion, and it can mount in any orientation.

Just get a name brand battery that meets the specs your car requires.
I had an optima in my Trans Am and saw no reason to spend another $150 to replace it when it died.

Optima quality has gone down since they outsourced to Mexico. An Optima employee posted on Jeepforum a year or two ago that they're improving, but I wouldn't bother with them. I've bought two Optimas, a Red Top for the Grand Cherokee that is now my dad's, and a Yellow top for the Miata. I have an old one now in my Jeep from before the Mexico outsourcing that the previous owner put in. They all work fine but why take an unnecessary risk?

Get the Diehard Platinum... rebadged Odyssey like somebody posted already.

OPtima batteries have their own purpose. They work well for people who need those extra things. But for the normal user its pointless. For you it might be throwing it away but for an off-roader or stereo guy they work great.

to the OP get a normal battery and call it a day. Every big store out there has some type of 3-5 year warranty. Most either crap out right away or they last a decent amount of time. I think they all are rebadged from the same 1-2 companies. AFAIK innerstate makes out OEM nissan/infiniti batteries.

I like the Duralast Golds - Great battery and warranty for the price. I haven't had to use the warranty though.
