Battery Life

Straight to the point, I have a cheap laptop with a Dual Core AMD P230 and a 5400RPM drive.

I love W7, it's so easy to use it's almost cheating, but, would any linux distros offer better battery life?

I find myself on the go very often with no access to power plugs for extended periods of time. At this point i've tweaks W7 to give me about 4-hrs on a full charge. Can linux top that without much difficulty or would it turn into 12hr command console marathons?

Actually, Windows seems to do better, especially compared to recent Linux kernels. They've figured out a fix to the power issues, but it hasn't made it into the kernel yet. For kicks, install Ubuntu 10.04 on a USB drive, and see what your run time is. Don't use a newer version, because they have the problematic kernel.
