Depends on use: if you travel on business, spend lots of time away from Mr. wall plug, or if it is just for LAN parties or home & office access to a single PC.

Anything less than 1.5 hours is useless. Luckily now a days, most laptops will go 2-3 hours. SOme will go 4-5 and up to 10 with 2 batteries installed.

i've got a compaq presario 2199 US(yell at me all u want haha). xp 2800 512 ram 40 gig hd 15in screen and when i turn down the brightness to my LCD i get a good 4 hours on one battery.

Depends on what you're doing too as mentioned above. If im at school just using MS word ors omething like that then it'll last the full 4 hours with the desktop brightness turned down. 2 hours if im doing something energy intensive like trying to game or something.

So anything around 3-4hours + is acceptable IMO.

My sister has an averatec xp2800 with 512 ram 12.1 screen and the battery lasts no more than 2 hours even with the brightness turned down. So it all does vary

my laptop can last 4-5 hrs and thats what I think is acceptable. I have 2 batts but they cannot be installed at the same time, so i got maybe 8-10 hrs while away from an outlet.
Anything less for me, I might as well be using a desktop.

just as a side note battery life declines as it wears on. when my laptop was new, the battery was giving about the rated 3 hrs of battery life performing normal tasks like surfing the web, word, etc. now that its about 3 years old, the battery life is down to about 2 hours.

i would say anywhere between 2-3 hours is acceptable but mostly do all of my work on the desktop at home so battery life isn't that much of a priority for me.

Depends on your use...

For mine, anything over 2 hours is enough, and thats why i have a widescreen, p4 battery eater :)

i got a dell 4100 inspiron that last a mere 1 and a half hours on battery and I know how annoying it can be when you need to search for a power socket. sigh..
