Battery Life Comparison Between Notebooks

I've been currently reading up about notebooks and inevitably it led me to this forum which has a ton of information. What I'm looking for is good gaming performance as well as a long battery life and good weight. This has led me to choose between the Dell 600m and the IBM t40. Both offer decent gaming performance and a similar weight of around 5.5 lbs. The thing that has led me to this post is that a friend got a 600m recently, and when checking battery life after a full charge, it listed as only 3 hours and 23 min of battery life remaining. After seeing that and reading that IBM notebook can last 5 hours and 30 min or even more, I'm finding it tough to decide which one to get. The dell is a bit cheaper price wise, but the IBM seems to last longer and have a better guild quality. Can anyone offer me any insight on to why the battery life is so dratically different? Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, a few reasons...

a) Check out the screen res on both laptops. dell's is much superior = consumes more power
b) Check out the screen sizes too. Chances are del's is much bigger = extra size consumes extra power
b) U mention gaming on both machines r the same. I'd ask u to research again. Dell's has a superior graphics card = consumes more power
c) Dell generally makes laptops with low price in mind. Hence, u wouldn't expect battery life to be too flash.

Well, both are tft sxga 14.1 1400x1050 resolutions. So the screens should be near identical. Both have the same graphics card: ati m-radeon 9000 with 32 meg. Just wondering how both can be near identical yet have such a different battery life. And as a mentioned, im comparing the 600m and t40.
