My desktop at home is connected to an APC SUA1000 UPS which shows up in device manager yet windows won't show the battery icon in the tray and the option is grayed out in the "Turn system icons on or off" dialog. So far I hvae tried:
1) Local Gropu Policy Editor shows the option as "Not Configured"
2) The registry hack for displaying the icons in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer are not present
3) I fixed IconStreams and PastIconStreams.
Those are the only 3 fixes I have found and none work. I had had tried the APC personal edition software with the UPS but the service kept crashing so I uninstalled it and it SAID it was restoring the original UPS handling.
Any ideas?
