battery failure

I have a toshiba tecra 8000 that I inheirited so I'm not sure how old it is. It cannot run on battery even though the hardware indicators say it's charged. Windows doesn't recognize it. Can I just get a new battery or could my laptop be busted and not get any juice from a battery, fresh or not?

try recalibrating the battery first. Many companies recommend doing that 3 times. A new battery shouldn't hurt anyhting other than your wallet.
