Hey everyone,

Maybe someone can shine some light here.
Recently some ice tea spilled over my camera when it was inside by bag (bottle leaked). Since that moment my battery is getting drained (dead in 2 days) while the power switch is off.
I tried replacing it with a new (original Canon) battery but it didn't make any difference.

Anyone have an idea how to solve this and if I can do that myself, or if I have to bring it in and what that would cost?
I tried cleaning the fitting where the battery makes contact with the camera but that didn't help. Have to say its hard to reach and therefore didn't do it all that thorougly so maybe the cleaning wasn't sufficient. I don't really dare to completely screw the camera open; maybe some parts will fall out that will be difficult to put back in place?

Besides the battery, there seems to be nothing wrong with the camera.

Thanks!
Johan

Some of the liquid may have deposited a somewhat conductive coating either across the contacts of the switch or inside the switch, itself. It's also possible that the mechanical switch controls other switching components and that the liquid is partially shorting across one or more of those contacts.

If you can access the circuit board(s) try cleaning both sides of the board(s) with circuit board cleaner or alcohol and a soft cloth or toothbrush.

If liquid got into the mechanical switch you may or may not be able to clean it with some kind of circuit cleaning spray.

If the above ideas don't fix the problem, you will probably need some professional tech help. Either the switch should be replaced, or the entire assembly may need advanced cleaning methods such as ultrasonic cleaning.

Good luck. :)

I would clean once again and let it dry thoroughly for at least a full day.

Then try again. If it did not help I would consider taking the battery out when you are not using the camera for more than an hour.
