Android 4.4.2.

Why is it that there is more than one way to optimize battery life using this app and they don't both do the same thing? There is the save power widget which finishes and says its optimized but then when you immediately go into battery doctor itself, there are still more running programs visible with their little app icons which you can click optimize again and then it shows you there's more saved battery life again.

I can also hit close all with the Android task manager but then battery doctor still shows there are more apps open which I assume is running in the background. Should I care about those? because it seems like they will start again on their own anyway but there are apps like Amazon and Retailmenot which I really don't want running all the time. Is this app even worth using at all?

You cannot keep applications from restarting on an Android phone that is not rooted unless you disable it or uninstall it.

Use GSAM it doesn't do anything like turn off apps, but it will give you information about what is draining your battery and you can either uninstall it or disable it.

Carat is another app that informs you about battery draining apps. It compares the apps you have installed and compares them to a list of known draining apps and apps that are buggy on the particular phone you have.

With both of these I have dialed in my phone so that it lasts all day unless I'm making huge demands on the battery. but in that case I have a spare I can swap to in a few minutes.
