Battery depletes after 2hrs....No matter what.

i performed 3 tests on my old TC1100 TabletPC last week and got intriguing results. i wanted to find out how long my batttery could run performing 3 different tasks. at the end, to my surprise, the battery performed approximately the same in each test: 2hrs.... (!)

i really thought the slideshow test would run for the longest time whereas the video would run the shortest. needless to say, i re-charged the battery completely before performing each test. also, the screen remained on during the 3 tests. the tests were:

1) JPG slideshow (in loop. 30-sec pause between pictures).
2) MP3 playback of an audiobook (in loop).
3) FLV playback of a video (in loop).

shouldnt the video playback have put a significantly heavier stress on HD, CPU and GPU? i mean, comparatively speaking. the battery lasted 2hr...no matter what.

just curious.

Sound like it has about reached its half-life. How old is the battery? Maybe time to replace it.

i'm sure it has already reached its "2-thirds life". :)

the point of my post was to try to understand how a seemingly simple task (a slideshow with 30sec-wait between pics) can put the same toll on the battery as the playback of a video....

Its not really using that much extra power to make a difference. Now you do something that has some encoding involved or your runing a high def video then you'll have more power drain.

Basically, running the display is about the same for each task. The bigger drain would be if the video were using the optical drive.

No, no tricks. The battery is getting a good drain during boot up. It takes a lot of power to boot up. Also it takes some extra power when the system goes into standby or hibernation. If you dont like exactly how it is acting you can go into the power settings and customize at what point it turns off and such.
