Battery backup question

So I just purchased a belkin 500va emergency battery backup and I plugged it in.
The manual said I needed to charge it for at least 6 hours so I left the thing plugged in all night.
Now when I try to turn it on, it won't even turn on (the lights are dead, no juice to my computer and monitor).
The question is, do I have to do anything else? Or is the product defective?? What do I need to check??

Thanks a lot guys...

It is defective. It should have turned on I beleive.

Make sure the battery is pluged in as if it has a replacable battery it may have shipped with it unpluged;)

Yes, I'm sure the battery is in since there's nothing else in the box.
Thanks a lot, I'm gonna go get a refund tomorrow.

When I got my UPS, I had to connect the battery as the instructions suggested.

an alternate solution is to simply buy an inverter, and connect some car batteries together...

Would that detect loss of power in the AC line and switch to the battery automatically, not allowing the PC to turn off, or are you suggesting it to be left on battery all the time?!

Did you open the UPS case and remove the tape off the battery?
