Does anyone make a small capacity UPS that can be used to keep a DSL modem & wired netgear hub up and running during a brief power outage (say 2 to 3 minutes), that has the capability to turn itself off after this short period so that the battery will not be drained all of the way down ??? Want this to be separate from computer UPS, thus can't use computer UPS software to do an automated shutdown.

Thanks.

No. The UPS will run on battery as long as it can. The computer software isn't any different. It shuts down when a certain percentage of remaining power is reached. It doesn't actually turn the UPS off.

I have a small battery backup unit for my cable modem and router. It has worked perfectly now for a couple of years. If the power stays off - it will eventually just die, but power has never stayed off longer than it can handle.

I also keep a small clock connected to it so I don't have to reset it every time we have a power hiccup. We have quite a few of those - change overs, etc.

As for thebattery running down in an extended outtage - who cares? It will recharge when it comes back on..

I use Belkins UPS(s) for my computer(s) and the Belkins software shuts down the computer and it also shuts down the UPS itself to keep the battery from being depleted.

Is there a UPS device that will do something similiar to this without the use of computer driven software, i.e. that has it's own built-in firmware that can be set to provide power for a specified period and then shut itself off ???

Thanks.

If it is completely discharged a few times, I believe you will find that it is not going to charge back up !!!

all the apc ups units i have used have discharged more than a few times completely and came back, batteries have lasted more than a couple of years on all of them...
