"Battery 85% available. (plugged in, not charging)" help appreciated.

My laptop will only run on the AC plug. The battery may be bad, but I really don't think so. Any trouble shooting tips?

What brand laptop do you have? You might want to try recalibrating the battery. My old HP had a bundled program that would calibrate the battery. My current laptop (an older Gateway from before they were consumed by Acer) has an option in the BIOS to calibrate.

Other than that, sounds to me like your battery is dead.

I tried calculating the battery, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I have an Acer 5810TZ running Windows7.

How do I calibrate the battery? I restart windows and press F2 for setup, but I don't see any options to do it.

In many laptops, that is a feature in BIOS. If your battery is more thsn 2 years old, it probably needs replacing.

Maybe it is included in your Laptop's software? I've never owned an Acer so I'm not sure, to be honest. Depends entirely on the manufacturer. My newer HP (a netbook) had no option at all. D:

How long does the laptop last on battery? If it doesn't even last 30 seconds, that sounds like you need a new battery.

Thats kind of the thing. Before it started malfunctioning I could go atleast a couple of hours on the battery.

To determine where the problem most likely is, remove the battery physically from the laptop. Then run on A/C power only. That will tell you if the power adapter is OK.

I've done this before and it operates fine. Where is the best place to buy a battery at?

Well....now I have a new battery. I am still having charging issues. Now, it says "51% available, charging", but it is not charging at all.

I've run into this at work with the Dells we use. The "Fn+F2" combination toggles charging off/on. Why anyone would want to turn that off is beyond me, but I have seen it many times before.

What brand of laptop is it?

Thanks, I tried it, but nothing has changed. It is an Acer Aspire 5810TZ.
