looking for clarfication on the energy density difference between NiMH,Lithium-ion, and Lithium Polymer. Which ones is the greatest and by how much.

I don't know much, but the Li types hold more capacity per volume, and NiMH has a very slight memory effect. Lis do not.

lithium polymer has the highest. you will see them used in very small devices, like cellphones and small laptops. with lower prices, it will get into more devices, allowing even lighter laptops. the true benefit of lithium polymer is not the density, it's the size. they can be super thin, like measured in mm, like 7 mm or something. and i dont mean those coin sized batteries either.

i dont know the actual amount.

adul, you know enough to look in google, you pimpin foo. =D

simple search in google "battery types"

http://www.cewindows.net/battery.htm
http://www.thermoanalytics.com/support/publications/batterytypesdoc.html

doesnt answer all your questions, but still...

We won't be see Li AA batteries any time soon, though. The standard voltage is 3.6V.

Single use Li AA batteries have existed for sometime, but they are expensive, cost 6 dollars for a pair.

i have actually bought a set to run in a gameboy. it did last a lot longer. energizer makes them.

Do you think there could be applications where they sell you a Li AA battery with a dummy battery to work in devices that need 2 AA batteries? Would that combination last longer than an NiMH? Thanks!

That's an interesting idea. The biggest problem with Li-Ion batteries is charging them IMO. NICD and NIMH batteries can be charged at pretty much any rate for any amount of time (with no real damage except to the battery). If you don't properly charge Li-Ion batteries, I've heard they can explode or catch fire.

If you're talking about using a single li AA battery to replace two nimhs, it won't work. The li AA batteries still only put out 1.5 volts each and two stacked nimhs give ~3 volts.

so Energizer dampen the output voltage of the Li AA battery? I thought it was just mentioned above that the standard voltage for Li is 3.6V?

Adul, you post elsewhere besides Off Topic?!? Check out the July 2002 issue of Maximum PC Magazine- they have the best overview of batteries that I have ever seen that will answer all your questions and more with in-depth pictures. PM me if you or a friend doesn't have that issue and I might sell you mine. :)

Li-Ion batteries are notoriously not safe. I'm not saying to be afraid of a battery, but I know a lot of battery manufacturers that choose not to deal with them for safety reasons.
