Where can I buy a new battery for an aging laptop? Dell doesn't even sell them anymore.
I'm wary of buying one on eBay, as I'm worried some of the cheap Chinese junk on there may be hazardous (fire/explosion risk..)

Most batteries you can buy off amazon as they have plenty of 3rd party vendors and you get the assurance of amazon.

Google search one of the numbers found on the batteries or the model of your Dell. You should be able to find many vendors. I'm able to do so for my Latitude D810.

Everything is made in China, just that some of more "monitored" than others. Although, that didn't stop a recall in 2006 due to "official" batteries catching fire. Apparently, small metal fragments in the manufacturing process could puncture the battery separator and cause a short circuit, when then obviously increase temperature to the point a fire starts.

When buying batteries for an old machine, keep in mind that Lithium Ion batteries degrade while just sitting on the shelf. If the battery stopped being made in 2010, then chances are that any "new" battery will be hardly better than your existing one.

Welcome to the age of disposable technology.
