Batteries and battery grip for my Canon 40D

GoingUp

Lifer
I need to get a battery grip and 3 batteries for my Canon 40D.

What can you recommend me, and where should I get it from? - Can't decide if I should go name brand or generic. What about the batteries? Name brand or generic?

Thanks!

Well, there's the official Canon battery grip for the 40D or you can get the cheaper third party knockoff by Opteka, although it may be of inferior build quality:

Just do a search on www.pricegrabber.com for the lowest price from stores that get good reviews. I've found that a lot of the stores besides B&H work just fine.

You should get batteries from Sterlingtek.

Is sterlingtek a brand or a store?

Sterlingtek is their own brand. But they do have their own, honest store with great CS. You can also buy from them through ebay or amazon if you wish.

yes, I've bought 3 batteries from sterlingtek so far and they ship super fast and have great prices.

I am also looking for a grip. If you decide to go Canon, the BG-E2 and BG-E2N are pretty much the same grip except the N version has "weatherproofing"

🙂

Iv seen both canon and non canon grips and let me tell you that non canons look and feel cheap; i just dont like it

That's because they are! 🙂

I have the XTi and ordered the Canon grip from B&H when I got my camera. I really enjoy it and it has yet to come off. I use two sterlingtek batteries as the primaries and use the stock canon as backup. I regularly get over 1,000 shots on a set of two of them. Been though many cycles without a problem.

What do you guys think of this?

Or I can get the grip itself for $170 from Cameta, then a couple of batteries for $24 from sterlingtek. Hows the quality and life on their batteries?

the quality of the sterlingtek batteries are great!

if you'd like a field test, I can let you know as soon as my grip comes. from what i understand though, i should be able to get close to 2000 shots w/o recharging with 2 bp-511's.
