its not jim crow as much as it is an attempt by parents to give their children the very best education possible and in the United States this is possible. Jim Crow was about separate but in this case the poor will need to pull themselves up and move forward. There is too much tendency to hold out the hand. Often students in the lower socio-economic area do not encourage their children to work hard...its all about destroying what they are given.

So write them off and move on. Got it.

Might as well just bring back the Jim Crow laws, afterall that's what the people want.

No one (from that group) is saying other races/minorities must leave or be separated from the people of the area. Nice try to spin it into something sinister for what it is not. Read the FAQ from the website and from your previous statement, you haven't read it.

Funny how you forgot to mention this from the FAQ section:

Most importantly, the city of St. George will provide the opportunity for parents and children within its borders to have a first-class public school system. There are 107,262 people in St. George at present, but only one public high school (and none in Southwest East Baton Rouge Parish) - a stark indication of the priorities of the current status quo.

Yup, so racist there, uh huh. How dare those racist bastards want more than 1 HS and better environment of learning for their children? They need to keep their mouths shut, work harder to pay even more taxes so their children can enjoy the one and only shitty HS in their neighborhood. <eyes rolling upward>

Yeah, how dare these people not willingly sacrifice their own children on the alter of shared misery. Damn it, not everyone can succeed so we must all fail together. Won't someone please think of the children? No, not YOUR children, the other children. We can let them fail, but we can't let them see other children escaping the fail.

It's amazing to me that people can see others trying to flee a school system that is 60% failing or near failing and think "racism!"

He's saying that poor people are too stupid to plan bus route without some filthy richer planning for them. You know, the white man's burden, only by economic class*.

*Granted, I'm assuming that successful people who happen to be minorities are not eagerly feeding their own children into that 60% failing/near failing, but I like my odds on that assumption.

Here's a more PC idea. Just build a new school across the street with higher standards and have students test into it. Like the NYC public school system, no other criteria, get the highest score and get admitted.

Poor parents need to step up and stop blaming others for their own problems. Study hard and work hard. That's the key to success.

Playing the race card never gets old for the left. A few months ago, I was listening to Tom Joyner, a popular black morning radio show host, and he claimed no president in history has been attacked like this president, because he's black. Prior to 2008 apparently, US politics was all tea and genteel manners.

I'm reminded of the demographics of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a magnet school in Fairfax County which is generally ranked among the best public high schools in the country. Though the county is only 20% Asian, the student body is nearly 66% Asian. Some minorities do strive to put their children in the best possible schools.

Educated people tend to care more about their children's education than those who are less educated. This isn't really all about poverty...it's more about the parent's education level and the value they place on their children's education.

I'm wondering how strong that correlation is. I know plenty of Asian parents who came over here with little more than a grade school education themselves, but pushed the importance of education for their children almost since the day the child was born.

When I was in several developing countries (aka poor) in Asia, I saw with my own eyes how Asian parents pushed their kids to do better in schools, how those parents sacrified (working extra jobs, cut back on themselves, etc.) to have their kids to go to schools and then colleges. I guess the culture. They did not sit around and blame others.

Culture is everything. If mommy and daddy don't give a crap about education, then it's highly likely their kids won't either. This is not rocket science.

This. And this is why it's so difficult for a school system to overcome these types of situations where parents are sending their kid to school (or not even bothering, in some cases) mostly because it's a free babysitting service, and not caring about what the child does at school. Very few teachers are gifted enough to reach a child who doesn't care about learning, and those types of children are usually the ones taking up the most time and attention, because they act out. Even Democratic presidents don't send their kids to DC Public Schools.

So what's your solution? Throw more money at the problem?

That and play the race card.

What they should do is make school optional at past the 3rd grade. Those who don't care about school should not be forced to go to school after the 3rd grade.

Seems like there's enough idiots voting already. I'm not sure we need more.

It's true that George W Bush was attacked, but that's because he was one of the worst presidents in American history. In contrast, Obama is merely an average president.

Clearly people with money are not normal people like the rest of us. We need to look down upon them for their inhumane behavior.
