Is the new Batman Begins movie the start of a new movie series of Batman? Or is it just the beginning to the old ones?

I think it's actually both. That's why at the end the movie the Joker card. Which is the first villian that Batman goes against in the older series

I don't think they're going to remake the old movies, I think that they just wanted to start over with a new (better) Batman, after ruining the whole thing with Clooney and Kilmer.

Start of a new series without all of the goofy crap that turned a promising movie series into a cosmic joke with its nipples on the batsuit and arnold schwarzenegger spewing trite catch-phrases that are supposed to make him seem clever and compliment his characters persona
fixed that one for ya 😉

I just saw Begins.
Not bad. I wasn't aware the Bat was a Ninja. Oh, wait, that's because the Bat isn't a ninja.
Hollywood. Argh. 😀azedandconfused;

Nolan wanted to do his own take on the series. It seems to exist outside the goofy world of the previous 4.

That being said no one is sure about a sequel. Its still up in the air. And in my opinion they don't need another one, this movie was amazing.

but ninjas are kewl😉 and well batman is essentially a ninja.....
Batman was pre-Ninja.
He was Ninja when Ninja wasn't cool.
IRL he drank beer and slapped women around. Had some badass skeletons and was hopelessly in the closet, too.
Had he ever come out, he'd have kicked the door right off the hinges. 🙂

The first two were dark and excellent. The others were gross ****** piles.

IMDB has a tiny bit of info about a sequel in the works for 2008.

I can't make myself watch it. I know it won't be as good as the Michael Keaton ones.

You're missing out. The original has a certain style and appeal. But Batman Begins is just as good. Its just different.

There will be 2 additonal movies (at least). Bale is signed for 3 movies, as well as Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

Batman Begins follows the comic book to the letter. The ones with Michael Keaton did not. This is how Batman should've been from the beginning, hence, Batman Begins.

Keaton still ranks as a close second best Batman though. Bale edged him out by only a small margin.

I have it the other way around. I still like Keaton the best, but Bale is a close second. This is the best batman movie, that's for sure.

no one will ever make as good a villan as Devito playing the penguin and Jack Nicholson as the joker

the kid that played scarecrow sucked ass and now whoever they get to play the joker will have to play it better/as good as Jack Nicholson? yeah right...

Perhaps, if you're a casual Batman fan (not insulting, just stating).

I used to feel the same way, but as I've become more knowledgeable about the character through more of the comics, I really don't think the first two are that good at all. Returns is actually particularly bad, though I still own Batman.

Begins is much better than any of the other 4 movies thoughs, easily.

Not quite. Granted it is very close, and the adaptions made for screen were handled quite nicely.

As I recall, In the comics, Bruce did not encounter Qui-Gon (heh), I mean Ra's Al Ghul until he was already established as Batman, or did they rewrite that in the '80s DC revisions?

I hate to say it, but I enjoyed the Kilmer batman... Then again I've never been into the comics, so I had no pre-knowledge of who batman was and what he was about.
