Batman games

I was thinking of finally picking up one of the Batman games for the PS3. How is it in terms of violence that it shows? If it's on the TV the kids (5 & 3) will probably watch. If it's on par with the old Streets of Rage, I feel that would be fine.

They gave some of the female characters gravity defying cleavage as well, if you're sensitive to that kind of stuff. I don't think there's any sexual activity though.

Keep in mind, the Arkham games are all rated "T" for Teen.

That means that the use of "blood and gore" is going to be basically non-existent. Same with language/cursing, which basically is limited to what you could hear on a prime time network show.

It's basically no different than Streets of Rage in that case in terms of level of violence. The only thing you may be concerned about, is obviously the graphics and visuals are light years better....almost life-like. In other words, that realism might make it more "distressing" to a small child, vs. watching obvious cartoony looking character beat each other up.
But other than that, it's fairly tame.

i would say the Arkham games are a little too dark for kids that young

Lego Batman 2 is a great game, catch it on sale, perfect for kids and satisfying for adults as well

there are few you could try, 'piece of resistance (lego)', 'injustice- gods among us', 'infinite crisis', check this blog, there's more. they should be ok for kids.

Funny, I allowed my 6 y.o. son to watch and he started taking it to school with him and I got in trouble with my wife. In retrospect, she was right.

The outcome was he doesn't watch me play the Arkham games anymore, but he did get the Lego Batman games (just bought him the 3rd in the series on Tuesday) as they are more age appropriate.

It's been a while since I've played Asylum and I haven't started City yet, but I remember the NPC thugs having some dialogue you probably wouldn't want your kids repeating.

But if you like hack n slash/beat em ups Rocksteady has put together the best combat system of any game I've ever played, so I don't think it should be passed up. Just use a PC monitor to play somewhere with more privacy instead of the living room, pick up a cheap HDMI to DVI cable if needed.

And if you've ever owned a set of 2.1 Logitech speakers you probably have an RCA to 3.5mm adapter that will get you audio to any set of portable speakers/headphones (using the stock composite cables that come with the PS3) and setting your console to output video through HDMI and audio through composite.

You should be able to find both an HDMI > DVI cable and female to female RCA > 3.5mm adapter from Monoprice, Amazon, Ebay, etc. for $6-7 shipped if you don't already have them.
