Can someone explain this to me?

Did Batman show like this come before the comics? Was Batman always a comedy/joke character like this until recently? (Batman 1989 movie, I know it got retarded again with Batman Forever and on)

the only thing I rememebr from that movie is the Bat shark spray. awesome stuff.

also, I was in Summer day camp (YMCA) when the the first Michael Keaton batman flick was released. One day, in camp, the counselors were going over the day's schedule of events, and one particularly douchey guy (must have been, I don't know, 19 or so--reminds me of the "Oh Face guy" in Office Space), tells us that "After the pool, we're going to come back here and watch the Batman movie!"

everyone loses their shit--holy crap! we get to watch Batman, at camp, on our TV?? I don't quite get it, but this is freaking awesome!!!!

the anticipation grew throughout the day.
so, several hours later, we're finishing up our sandwiches and bug juice, settling down for the big moment. Douchey McDouche pops the tape into the VCR.

and, AND.....Batman! THE MOVIE! with Adam West!!!

oh, ffs. talk about a bunch of pissed-off kids.

The Batman comic started in, like...1940 something.

Have you seen the shark scene from the beginning of the movie?

OMG, my stomach hurts after watching that.

Batman punching the shark while it's clamped onto his leg: "thud, thud, thud"

Batman would carry a gun and shoot criminals.

It wasn't until the 70s when they started to introduce the brooding Dark Knight.

Actually, according to Wiki, the original Batman comics (written in the 40's and 50's) were much darker and had "pulp" tone. I guess a lot closer to the modern Batman.

"Batman was originally written in the style of the pulps,"[18] and this influence was evident with Batman showing little remorse over killing or maiming criminals."

It goes on to say that there were complaints about children seeing this kind of violence in comics so they turned to camp in the 60's. Such a sad decade.

walking on the "wall" pretending to be climbing is the best part of the campy Batman.
