Batman Arkham Origins thread

This is the next big game on my radar, and so far, it's looking REAL good. Release date on October 25th 2013. I hope the Montreal team continues Rocksteady's legacy of using PC tech like PhysX and DX11 (although their DX11 implementation wasn't too good to be honest) to improve the image quality of the games over the console versions.

Kevin Conroy, the familiar voice of Batman in the previous Arkham games won't be returning for Origins. Batman will be voiced by the guy who did Ezio Auditore in Assassin's Creed II, a Mr. Roger Craig Smith.

Also, Joker won't be Mark Hamil, but Troy Baker, the guy who voiced Booker De Witt in Bioshock Infiinite.

First Trailer (CGI not in game

I'm certain these screenshots are from the PC version, as the textures look too clean and polished to be from the consoles.

Boy, I really need to go back and finish Arkham City. I got so bogged down with side quests that I lost track of the main story and got bored.

No Mark Hamil as Joker?! I don't think I'll buy this one.

I don't understand how some people can think like this.

Mark Hamil is just 'a' voice actor for Joker. The only reason you associate Mark Hamil with the Joker is because he's been doing the Joker's voice for such a long time. The industry has no shortage of talented voice actors that can easily match his impersonation of the Joker.

From all reports, Troy Baker's Joker sounds almost the same as Hamil's even..

No Conroy as Batman either.

But I think the voice acting they did get for these roles will still be very good still. these are not your 80's afternoon cartoons voice actors anymore.

I reserve my judgement until we see how the new team does with it. Rocksteady has a good rep for the previous games and they have to keep the same standards for me.

I hope they do.

Loved both games and will buy this one. Probably not on release day, though.

I first played both this year, long after most of the issues were hammered out.

Can't wait. I loved Arkham City, and while I'm sad about not having Hamill and Conroy as the voices, it won't be a large factor on whether I get the game.

Now if the voice acting is straight terrible, like Denise Richards' acting terrible, maybe it'll play a role.

The interesting part is that Conroy said that he was working on the game, but WB was quite adamant about him not voicing Batman. So, I wonder what he is doing.

using UE3 crap still?

The UE3 lends itself quite well to the animated style of the Arkham series I think. It may not be photo realistic, or even close to it, but it suits the game nonetheless.

I just hope they optimize DX11 more this time, and add more PhysX effects.

Actually it was clarified Conroy's working on an Arkham game, not specifically this one though. I think its a safe guess to say Rocksteady is working on a sequel to Arkham City.

Its probably next-gen and Warner Bros gave Arkham: Origins to other developers so they could get a release in this year, while giving Rocksteady more time to adapt to the new hardware.

I love the Arkham series (minus GFWL) and hope they don't COD the franchise.

I agree that the side quests can make you lose track of the main story, but I really liked the side quests, felt they were unique. Was bummed when I completed the main story and still had a couple side quests to complete.

Does the digital version have securom?

All versions do, yes, regardless of where you purchase it. Even the steam versions have it. It's bullcrap, and I won't ever buy Batman games because of it - the only way I would play them is 1) on console or 2) if they were free with GPUs (I got batman: AC free) But I won't support SecuROM installation limits with my wallet. :colbert:

I'm hoping Origins doesn't have SecuROM (or GFWL for that matter) but every prior Rocksteady and WB game has :|

Didn't the last game have multiplayer too? I haven't tried it, but I could have sworn I saw it in there. :hmm:

My bad. I thought there was some sort of fighting against others online as part of City. Guess not.
