Batman Arkham Origins: FAIL

Got the PC version of this for Christmas. I've got the flu or something this weekend, so I figured I'd pop it in and play until I feel better.

WRONG

The box doesn't have an activation code A quick check of the support forums and Steam shows this is a big problem for people that bought this game from Best Buy.

If you got this game for Christmas, you might want to check the box.

Huh, that's an odd problem. Even weirder if it's isolated to a single store. So what's the solution? Return it and buy it digitally?

Similar thing happened with my friend who bought CALL OF DUTY GHOST.

He opened the pack and there was no key.

Can't. Best Buy's policy is solid: no opened returns for software.

I did go there today and they were happy to exchange it---only to find out that the exchanged copy didn't have a code in it either! We agreed this is an issue with WB Games and I opened a ticket with them.

With all the bugs in the game and now cased being sent without codes, it's pretty clear they don't know what they're doing.

The last physical game I bought at Best Buy (Witcher 2), had two discs 2's, and no disc 1.

When they made me wait and gave me a hard time; decided to never shop there again even if no other store carried what I need.

I got the game for $29 (regular price $59), so I'd rather get it working instead of a refund

No...they never responded to my original ticket, so I called and opened one on the phone. It could take 6-8 weeks to get back to me.

There's rumors of a class action lawsuit since this seems yo gave happened to 1000s of people.

Why didn't you just stand there at Best Buy and keep opening them until you got one with a key?

Its strange how it works like that.

If the situation were reversed, and, say, someone walked out of the shop with an item without paying for it (perhaps due to absent-mindedness rather than intent to shoplift), could they then tell the store owner who chased after them to 'take a ticket' and you would get back to them in a few months once you've sorted out whether you are going to return the item to them or not? Because, you know, you have to follow your 'internal procedures' to process their request?

If I were in that situation, I wouldn't leave BB without my money back. A manager knowingly selling faulty merchandise is unacceptable. Just keep exchanging and opening in store.

Either that, or just contest the charges with the CC. Any way, AO isn't particularly good, even for $29.

Well, I know that now, but I'm determined to get my key. It's not Best Buy's fault, it's WB Games. I'll never buy another game they publish. It's it's not from Rocksteady, it's not worth getting.

A well run company would return all the defective boxes to WB Games and demand a refund. Knowingly selling a faulty product is bad, so it IS partly BB's fault.

Buying on steam is always the better option.

That depends on the deal you find. Sometimes b&m stores can beat steam's current pricing.

Rocksteady did not develop the game. Their previous titles were so polished, easy to install, and bug free that they would have been memorable just for that.

They had nothing to do with Origins, it was all WB Games, and they obviously do not know what they're doing. Rocksteady does.

You misunderstand me.

I know that Rocksteady didn't develop Origins. WB Montreal did. Rocksteady developed AA and AC. WB Games published all three.

You said you would avoid all games published by WB Games. WB Games is Rocksteady's publisher. Publishers and developers are different, and you're confusing them. WB Games is publishing the Rocksteady-developed AK as well.

Also, AC in DX11 mode was a stuttery mess that was never fully repaired. Rocksteady's track record is not much better in this regard. They have less issues, but still have their fair share.

It's the publisher's job to include the key in the box. This was just as likely to happen with a title developed by another company as it was with this game.
