I started playing this game again over the weekend and it occurred to me just how great of a job they did with this one. It holds up really well. Often I find that even after just a year or two many of the current gen games will be eclipsed in some way by newer tech or even newer versions of the same series (Arkham City). But this game really does hold up well over time. If you've not taken the time to play this one yet then you definitely need to pick it up. I'm sure you can find it for $10-$20 new and it's worth every penny.

Do you have any personal favorites from this gen, on either 360 or PS3, that you feel the same way about in terms of longevity?

I'm the same on AA. I picked it up after it became a greatest hits (like $15?) and was VERY impressed. People told me after it came out how awesome the game was and I was just like whatever.

Then one day I asked another friend what he thought and he said it was good so I said eh, what the heck.

It damn near instantly became one of my favorite games of all time. They just did a perfect job on it, and I'm not a Batman fan or anything.

I didn't like City as much because I think they just went too far and overdid it. There is a point where it can become overwhelming and I think City pulled that off. Too many new combat moves, too many new trophies, too many new character types to fight, you can only get certain things with another character (Catwoman), etc. But don't get me wrong, City is still a good game - I'm just not compelled to get 100% completion on it like I was with AA.

There's the base of your argument; there isn't anything since then for it to compete with (Until the new one comes out), so of course it still holds up well and is the best of its kind. That being said, it is quite the amazing game.

Been playing Arkham City on the PC. I actually had dreams about using the zip line last night. Woke me up at 2am. Tried to go back to sleep and could only think about how to get to the Riddler. My mind was racing.

Did your dream also include you going through 10,000 air vents?

I played that game 50% through and got tired of going through vents.

No, and I've been through some air vents, but no too many.

I thought Asylum was too repetitive. Boss fights were basically just more normal bad guys and every enemy was basically beaten the same way. I did enjoy it but combat got real repetitive. City solved many of the enemy issues for me, much more variety in City.

I am a pretty big Batman fan and I loved Asylum. I thought I would go crazy for city, but when it came out I played it for about 3 hours and it just wasn't doing it for me, so I put it down. I am hoping that I can get to it one more time though, maybe after Tomb Raider and Skyrim.

I'm the exact opposite. I played Asylum probably about halfway through before losing interest, but tore through all of City.

I picked up Asylum for the PC for cheap and I think I'm through 30% of it but put it down a few months ago and haven't gone back to it, I hate having an unfinished game so I will pick it back up eventually at some point but I'm finding that I need to psyche myself to do that as I just wasn't enjoying the repetitive fights in it and mashing on buttons. Based on that experience with Asylum, I'm not picking up City.

If you're button mashing you're doing it wrong.

I agree with this. I thought that AA was brilliant, but AC just felt a bit too much. While I enjoyed a lot of it, it had too much padding on it and the storyline was a bit muddled. It felt like the movies where they start off hot and as they keep making more they have more and more expectations to add people and things while keeping all of the old stuff. Makes it too jumbled.

I do need to go back and play AC again. Loved it and always meant to go back through and play through some of the other storylines (Catwoman for example).
