Bathtubs

We have a bathtub in our master bathroom that we have, quite literally, never used.

There is also a bathtub in our kids' bathroom that we used until about two years ago, when our youngest went to showers full-time. Since then, it has been completely unused (We even shower the dogs because it keeps them better contained than a bathtub).

When is the last time you took a bath?

Other than for your kids (and resale, I guess), do you see any use to having a bathtub?

I've used mine twice since I moved here 2 years ago. And that was only to try out the jets.

I've taken one bath. Ever. It was not fun. Showers all the way. We have a shower because apparently of resale value; but nobody I've ever met would ever use a bath, unless they have children under 10.

I always laugh at these McMansions with big bathtubs... nobody ever uses them. MAYBE the wife once in a while (I'm sure they enjoy the jets more than anyone ). Total waste of money and something that was just popular to do... seems to be fading though now. Now the big thing is nice showers (more logical).

I'll take a bath sometimes when i've got the chills from a fever, but that's just to soak, not clean myself. So maybe once a year. Once we get a hottub though it will be never.

I love baths. It's incredibly relaxing. Unfortunately I'm tall so normal tubs don't work out too well. I take a bath about twice a month now (normal tub). When I had a large garden tub it was once or twice a week.

My wife takes baths at least once a week.
I have no idea what she does in there...
Every time I walk in on her to sneak a peek, she is just sitting there.

It's relaxing. You've never been in a hottub? Women take baths more often because they're smaller and can actually fit in a tub.

When I sit in our bathtub it looks like i'm sitting in a clown car. When I was in highschool though I would use my parents hottub every day in the winter. It was amazing.

I put one of those corner "garden tubs" into my house specifically because of that. If a hot tub'ish type of thing is going in...it's going to be big enough for two people. It's nice.

If I had my way I would have had no tub at all and just went your route with a huge walk in shower. But alas the woman wanted a tub so we compromised the other way and went with one I could actually enjoy too.

Honestly she wants a hot tub outside...but I just see that being a $10,000 money pit that will get used a couple times a year at best. At least the garden tub in the shower is about 80% what a hot tub does and requires no major maintenance, upkeep or liability. I'm hoping the nice tub in the house kicks the hottub idea.

I don't know a single person that bought a hot tub and 10 years later said it was a good idea. They all say it's just an expensive waste of money/space.

I love baths! We didn't have a shower when I was growing up, so I never took showers with any frequency until I went away to college. Baths still seem more normal to me, decades later.

Part of the reason for bathtubs though might be code, bathtubs at least here can be placed with smaller pipes which make them easier to connect.

I haven't mentioned my idea to my wife yet. So I don't know yet how successful I'll be in ditching the tub. But neither of us ever take baths, and the 2nd bath will still have the standard tub if she ever felt the need.

Noone wants to sit in a tepid pool of their own filth. I'd rather use my own urine to wash up, at least thats sterile.

The way I see it baths are supposed to be for relaxation, not cleaning. So you shower first, then fill up a warm bath and veg out for a while.
Not really my cup of tea (too time consuming), but I can understand why some people like it.
