Basketball rule question..

Say a team, with its 12 players, managed to get 8 of their players ejected in one way or another..such as a brawl, foul-out, or whatever.

Would the game go on with just 4 of its players? How would that work?

There was a college game just the other day where 19 players were ejected because of a fight. The game continued 4 on 4, until a player fouled out. Then it was 4 on 3 the rest of the way.

If it's an NBA game, they would be forced to forfeit. Also, an NBA team must have at a minimum 8 players in uniform at the start of the game, or they must forfeit.

The game you are referring to is that of EKU and TSU (i think TSU?), anyways, yeah, EKU is here in the city I live. I can see the dorms from my front porch, it's right up the road.

Anyways, it's was exactly that. It was a big bench clearing brawl, and after all the ejections, it was 4 on 4 ball. This was with like almost 10 minutes left in the game. A guy on the other team fouled out, so it was 4 on 3, EKU's advantage. A few suspensions came out of that, even the respective coaches of the teams. I beleive that is an OVC rule, though, that the coaches get suspended as well if something like that breaks out.

No At the start of each Quarter that a team does not have 5 players available for playing they are issued one Technical for each player short.

Oh that's right isn't it? I do remember reading that now. Not something that happens often though!

the league would stagger the suspensions so the teams have enough players to suit up and everyone isn't all out at once...in the nba that is.

I remember reading the Complete NBA rule book once in High School after I was thrown out of a game.

Once in AAU nationals, we had 10 players, 2 were injured, so we had 8 to begin with, 4 fouled out, we played 4 on 5 the last 5 mins... it was different.
