Basketball players wear TWO pairs of shorts?

I've noticed over the years that most basketball players seem to have two pairs of shorts on while playing....and inner spandex like material and an outer nylon material. I haven't been able to find matching inner and outter shorts anywhere. Also, most people don't seem to wear them for street ball, since i can see thier boxers/junk when they move or fall over.

I'm confused as to the point of this thread. Are you asking where to get said shorts, whether it's normal to wear said shorts, or just making an observation?

I am simply asking where to obtain these mystical inner shorts that so many college and NBA players wear. I made these observations because i don't want people to see my equipment when happen to move or expose myself accidentely.

I suppose you already tried a sporting goods store?

Yes, i have. But, most shorts, mesh, athletic, reversable, etc. only have the outers. If you notice (for example) if you purchase Laker shorts, there is no option to purchase laker "tights?"....i mean, the people know what i'm talking about...but it doesn't seem to be available. Now do most bb players here just wear generic spandex tights? I wanted something color-coded correctly as well.

Carl: Have you heard of the "internet"?
Lenny: What's that?
Carl: Its the inner netting they are putting in shorts.
(later)

Its not an inner netting. Its more a base layer, like polypropelyne underwear. I've found very limited selections in footlocker....but it seems the actual ones that the nba players wear are simply not available. Since they make replica jerseys. shorts, shoes etc. i thought they might make this as well. I recall players like jordan and iverson even have custom ones where their numbers are embroidered on them

They're basically cycle shorts. Because they are close fitting they help keep the hamstrings warm help preventing any injuries.

Yep. Plus, why are you being so picky over a pair of UNDERshorts?

Or they're simply boxer-briefs. Players would probably get embarrassed if they fell down and had everybody getting a view of their tighty whities instead of their cool boxer-briefs. ;)

yups! compressor shorts - help to keep everything from jiggling during games, in addition to keeping you warm.

<-- not a bball player, but the bf is a big bball fan..

More than that, there's some research evidence that keeping the muscles (legs in this case) squashed into those shorts will help with fatigue over the course of the game or whatever other activity. They fit much tighter around the legs than regular cycling shorts.

There's a bit of info about them on this site.
