"Smack the ball's ass"

This is an excerpt from a little blurb in CAR Magazine.

Here's the entire blurb:

<< ShodGuns
Basketball fans know LA Laker Kobe Bryant for his exceptional ability to, as is said courtside, "smack the ball's ass", and as a style template, Adidas wanted to reflect this in the boots they named after their prodigal billboard. Enter the collaborators Audi. The "Kobe" boot is based on the TT, with a grille detail on the toe, Audi-ish stripeson the side and a rear "spoiler". They're $135(90 pounds) a pair. Call 0161 419 2739 for stockists

I play basketball...(in the hood I might add...okay...the rec centers of denver, aurora(see...the hood;)), westminster, arvada...the streets of wheat ridge, and Lakewood) I also go to high school games, NBA games, and college games as well. I've NEVER heard this phrase before. Maybe it's just me. Have you guys/gals heard it before?
