anyone here get their hands on an advance copy of 2k8 or live? i was sorta dissapointed by the 2k8 demo so i'm waiting to see what the full game is like.
 
The 2k series has been VASTLY superior in nearly every way (with the exception of still-frame graphics, as its always had better animation but some of the live player models have been nicer, that is until things started to move) since....well....2k...some previews have mentioned that live is trying to become a little more of a real basketball game this year but they have said that about madden every year and well it still isn't much different from the 1st ps2 version.
 
A friend of mine got 2k8 early at best buy...it plays...well about what any long time fan of the 2k series would expect...the AI is vastly improved...the teams play way more like they would in real life...here's an example...I was playing as the Mavs against the spurs...got a good 6 point run going...they start running plays to get duncan mismatched in the post on dirk to either a) get him in foul trouble...or b) cut into the lead by using thier best player at his best position....I'd imagine the cavs would go to lebron and the lakers to kobe....ect ect...but it was just really pleasing to see thier run come from the good players...not some scrub hitting shots he totally would never make just to keep the game close *cough* like live *cough*
 
thats good to hear, AI was a little spotty in last years game. especially end game situations.

i should see if my local best buy is also selling them early.
 
I have always been a fan of Live myself. I tried the 2k7 demo and hated the foul shot mechanic. If they would go back to something more traditional, I might actually pick it up, but until then I will stick with Live.
 
I pre-ordered 2k8 myself. It seems like Live made big strides this year, but it still cannot come close to 2k8 in terms of gameplay. Live is still fun though.

It's a pity that 2k8 demo is so minimal.

For foul shot mechanics are you talking PS3 version with sixaxis or do you mean 360?

I personally like the sixaxis mechanic, one of the better implementations of sixaxis to date. I believe Live has something similar this year but you hold down the trigger buttons. I didn't get to take a free throw attempt in my short playing of the Live demo to confirm.

2k8's AI and gameplay IMO is better then Live, but the graphics in Live are much better. However, it seems the 2k8 demo was from a very early build so things might have improved since they made the demo. Just my two cents.

Mine shipped today. Most likely won't have it until Thursday. IGN should have reviews tonight hopefully. FYI, Live received 6.5, 6.5, and 7.5 at EGM. No 2k8 review though, but the magazine hinted 2k8 is superior than Live (duh!).

is it just me or does moving around and shooting feel just a touch slower than last year? everything seems to respond a half second later than i'd expect

yeah, this was my biggest complain. the controls don't feel right, but i don't really know what it is.
 
Shipping is taking longer than expected, mostly likely I will get my copy today.

I think it has to do with this foot-planting technology they've got. The player's gotta plant his feet before executing moves, it's mentioned in the IGN review. Definitely takes some adjustment, but think once you get used to it ain't that bad.
