basis question: what does DDR stand for??

I missed out on a few releases of hardware on memory.. I remember it went from
SIMMS, 30 pin -> 72 pin
DIMMS PC66,PC100,PC133

Now there are DDR PC1600, PC2100, PC2600 and rambus.

How much faster are these than the PC100/PC133 and what does DDR stand for?? Where does rambus come into the picture? Thanks..

I don't know the basis for for question perhaps you were curious

DDR stands for double data rate

..what is so great about DDR now VS the DIMMS?? Is it the speed? Instead of being PC100/PC133, they are at 266 now?? Or can someone point me to a place/site that might answer this question? Thanks..

Double data rate. Sdram sends info on one tick of the clock cycle where DDR sends it on the up and down tick of the clock cycle. THeoretically it should be a 50% performace increase, but really is around 5-15%.
