Basic Switch question regarding cable modem sharing.

Hi,
I have a basic question about sharing a cable modem using a switch/router such as a linksys. My cable company registers the ethernet card address so that only that specific card can access the network. So do I have to register the switch address with them or does the switch allow the card address to be recongnized by the cable modem system. If this is so will I have to keep the computer on with the registered card for the other computers on the switch to have internet access.

Thanks

Alex

They register the mac address of the card and not just the IP address? Worst case maybe call them and tell them you have a laptop you want to connect on occasion instead of your desktop and would you need to register that too, to see if it's really needed.

If you get this Cable/DSL Router/Switch.

Get one can clone the original MAC number.
