Basic questions about wireless router/modem

Eug

Lifer
I have a VDSL2 modem/router with WiFi built in. Right now I have the WiFi turned off and am using a 3rd party access point for WiFi - no really good reason, except that in the past, old combo modem/routers could get unstable with with intense WiFi use. That probably isn't the case with this unit, but I dunno.

In my config I like to set the channels manually, and stick to a bandwidth setting of 20 MHz since AFAIK my Macs don't understand 40 MHz anyway. There are two other settings that I don't know what to do with.

The "Extension Channel" defaults to 5 for my channel setting of 1. However, is this setting irrelevant if I'm not using the 40 MHz band?
Reverse Direction Grant: Has a checkbox, without a default on or off setting. I believe this is a setting for 802.11n only.

The unit is an Alcatel-Lucent CellPipe 7130 Residential Gateway.
