Basic question about Memory

Hi all, I gought a 512MB PC2700 kingston mem module a while back for my Abit IS7 (nForce chipset).

I wanted to add another 512MB chip. However I do not want to buy the slower PC2700. I'd rather get PC4000 or something like that. My question is do I have to have the two chips run at the same speed to gain the dual channel benefits? Or does it only matter that both chips are same capacity? Not sure how that whole dual channel mumbo jumbo works.

Anyway, any help appreciated.

for dual channel to work, both sticks of ram have to be identical. identical speeds, and preferably identical brands, although you might get it to work with 2 different brands.

the extra rating won't make a difference anyway, unless you are overclocking. Your motherboard's recommended settings are 266\333\400 mhz, or up to pc3200.
