Currently we use a 2MP Nikon Digital Camera for snapshots and have been really happy with it. We only enlarge to 4x6 and this has been perfect. Looking at adding a Digital Camcorder to the mix. I have read that most of them include a still camera function, but it typically stinks in the terms of quality. Can you not just capture a frame from any video you record? What resoltion size do these record in? If the camera records in 720x480 is that using the same scheme as the Nikon, where 2mp = 1600x1200.

the frames from dv video are usually interlaced (unless you've got the money to buy a 24P prosumer cam :)). You can deinterlace the footage but you lose half the resolution in the process. Some digital camcorders have half decent digicam functions. There is also this JVC cam that has dual lens, one for video and another for still.
